Quote of the Month

When I see danger,
I step away. When I think I can move
forward, I move ahead, and when I think I
can come closer, I do. Sometimes I am wrong,
but often, if I pay attention, I am right,
and these maps of my own instincts guide me
as surely as any by Rand McNally would.

AHA Report Charts Hospitals' Economic Woes
|
The faltering
economy and credit crunch have put the
nation's hospitals in financial peril by
hampering their abilities to invest in new
technology and needed renovations, according
to a report issued last week by the American
Hospital Association.
A Web-based survey of 736 hospitals in 30
states discovered that total margins dropped
to negative 1.6 percent in the third quarter
of 2008, as compared to the 6.1 percent seen
over the same quarter in 2007. Hospital
interest payments increased by an average of
15 percent from July through September when
compared to the same three-month span in
2007.
The AHA says hospitals suffered a 30 percent
drop in patients seeking elective procedures
and a 40 percent decline in overall
admissions between 2007 and 2008, coupled
with an 8 percent increase in uncompensated
care between July the end of September 2008
against the same period in 2007.
Additionally, the AHA claims the tanking
stock market has had a negative impact on
the investments hospitals rely on to remain
financially solvent.
That bleak financial picture has caused 56
percent of hospitals to postpone renovations
and planned increases to their capacity; 45
percent to delay purchases of clinical
technology or equipment and 39 percent to
hold off on investing in new information
technology, according to the report. Many
hospitals are also considering cutting
administrative costs or reducing staff and
services, says the AHA.
"Hospitals are a critical part of our
nation's economy as the second largest
private sector source of jobs," says Rich
Umbdenstock, the association's president and
CEO. "The economic crisis is taking its toll
on patients, communities and hospitals
alike."

Congratulations!!!
|
We are excited to
announce that Jill Binder, one of our
seasoned account managers, has been promoted
to the role of Staffing Manager! Jill joined
our organization in 1999 and has risen
through the ranks, developing and
fine-tuning her role as Account Manager. She
thrives on the daily communication and
problem solving that comes into play when
making placements and finding solutions to
clients' staffing challenges.
Jill is prepared to face her new internal
responsibilities using the skills that she
has refined in her 10 years with the
company. She is a firm believer in leading
by example and she will be applying that
philosophy while helping her teammates as
they face their own placement and staffing
challenges.
Her experience, open mindedness and work
ethic made her a natural choice for this
position. Fortunately, her new role won't be
taking her away from what she loves the
most, talking to providers and clients and
taking care of each person's needs.
Congratulations Jill!
