Happy Holidays!!!

Holiday Fun Facts:

The first president to decorate the white house Christmas tree in the United States was Franklin Pierce.

Germany made the first artificial Christmas trees. They were made of goose feathers and dyed green.

Electric lights for trees were first used in 1895.

The first Christmas cards were vintage and invented in 1843, the Victorian Era.

"It's a Wonderful Life" appears on TV more often than any other holiday movie.

"Rudolph" was actually created by Montgomery Ward in the late 1930's for a holiday promotion. The rest is history.

More Holiday Fun Facts:

"The Nutcracker" is the most famous Christmas ballet.

"Jingle Bells" was first written for Thanksgiving and then became one of the most popular Christmas songs.

If you received all of the gifts in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas," you would receive 364 gifts.

A message from the President

"An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves."

-Bill Vaughan

Which one are you? It has been an interesting 2009! Our country has seen a lot of change and depending on your frame of mind and personal situation it was either a very challenging year or a year full of opportunity!

We are optimists here at National Anesthesia Services. This past year was full of great success and was very fulfilling for our team. Our goal every day is to provide you with superior customer service and to build lasting relationships. I can wholeheartedly say that I feel our team has once again achieved this goal and hope that you all feel the same way. Although the anesthesia staffing world faced some different dynamics this past year, our team remains strong and unwavering in our commitment to finding you solid jobs and providing cost-effective staffing strategies for our clients.

2009 was another year of giving back, both at the community level and internationally. Locally, we spent some time with the seniors at a local nursing home and on a national level, we continued our support of Operation Iraq: The Spirit of Christmas, helping provide support to our troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. National Anesthesia was also actively involved in JAM's (Joint Aid Management) 2nd Annual Golf Outing, helping to raise over $100,000.00 for their cause of providing food and water (in the form of village wells) in Africa. On the creative side, we completed a very exciting project and participated in producing our first "movie". Our team poured their heart and soul into the project and are very proud of the end result. The unscripted testimonials from you and from our staffing team are amazing! Take a look at the finished product and see for yourself,
www.nationalanesthesia.com. We wanted to give you a glimpse of our inner circle and share our thoughts about why we love our jobs! I really would like to hear what you think about the video, so please share your feedback by replying to this newsletter.

Please enjoy this month's edition of National News. Be sure to read about the video in "Lights! Camera! Action!" , enjoy a review of our annual holiday celebration in "National celebrates the season!" and in the spirit of the new year and new beginnings, take a minute to read the article " Finding the Gift in Every Situation."

I hope you had a beautiful Christmas and are looking forward to a great New Year's celebration. Thank you for remaining connected! Here's to an outstanding 2010!

Stephen Read, President
National Anesthesia Services, Inc.

Quote of the month

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

----- Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Lights, Camera, ACTION-National Video debuts!

After a great deal of anticipation the National Anesthesia Services video is finally live on www.nationalanesthesia.com. The box office numbers for the opening week are still rolling in but we may just have more views than Titanic eventually!

We're limited on the amount of face time we get with those we work with across the country so we created this video to connect with people on a different level. This sneak peek into our company provides testimonials from clients, providers and National Anesthesia account managers. There is a reason why we've been in business for over 20 years and now we're revealing those not-so-secrets that made it possible!

Whether you've worked with us for years or you're thinking of taking National Anesthesia for a test drive, check out our video, meet our employees and see what other people have to say about us. Don't forget your popcorn!

We'd love to hear what you think! Please email feedback to Courtney here in our office at
clozen@nationalanesthesia.com.

National celebrates the season!

In past years "Secret Santa Week" has approached competitive sport status here at National Anesthesia and 2009 was no exception. Our detective skills were put to the test and in the end, some Santas were confused about even their own identities! Several mystery Santas bestowed extra gifts upon lucky recipients causing mass confusion around the office. Never have more candy bars been ingested, sodas imbibed and pistachios shelled, it was five days of true holiday revelry. The festivities culminated with our annual Christmas lunch and the customary White Elephant Gift Exchange and Secret Santa Reveal. It was an afternoon filled with Christmas spirit (and coconut shrimp)! We'll remember it for years to come, and are already looking forward to Christmas 2010!

Finding the Gift in Every Situation

When life places obstacles in our path, when things seem like they're breaking down and we grow weary of the struggle, it's a good time to step back and look for the gift. What gift, you say?

Every situation and experience in life holds a gift, lesson or blessing for us. Yes, even the really painful experiences, like the loss of a loved one, an automobile accident, or natural disaster. There is a gift there, if we look for it.

To find the gift, we simply have to ask ourselves, "What positive lesson can I learn from this? How can this situation benefit me? What wisdom can I gain from this experience? What makes this situation worthwhile to experience in my life?" We can learn from anything in our lives, from a snag in our pantyhose to a migraine headache. We can learn from our disappointments, our heartaches, and our joy.

We can do this with any situation too, not just negative ones. Where is the gift in a boring Sunday afternoon, a crying infant or a gray, rainy wedding day? All we need to do is choose to see the positive side of the situation. The gift of a boring Sunday afternoon might be expressing gratitude for having some free time to express our creativity or enjoy a good book. A crying infant can teach us patience, compassion and nuturing. A rainy wedding day can help us understand what really matters, the celebration of love and meaningful connections with our friends and family.

Of course, when truly wonderful things happen to us, we don't need to really look for the gift then, do we? We already know what it is. During the happier moments of our lives, we can further honor this positive energy by expressing our deepest gratitude and joy. Rather than just feeling glad about our good fortune, we can purposely focus our thoughts on massive amounts of joy and gratitude, and consciously immerse ourselves in happiness. We can shout our thanks to the heavens and affirm that we welcome even more blessings in our lives.

Choosing to focus on the positive side doesn't mean living our lives in denial. It doesn't mean refusing to acknowledge the negative or mundane aspects of our lives. It means we see them, we accept them, and then we look beyond them rather than getting mired in negative thoughts and letting them affect the rest of our day.

Looking for the gift means choosing to lift our thoughts higher than our struggles. It removes us from our victim status and empowers us. No matter what happens in our lives, we have the ability to choose our attitude and our mindset. We can choose to focus on happiness, joy, love and gratitude, or we can stay mired in unhappiness and struggle.

Focusing on the gifts and blessings in our lives won't make all of our problems vanish overnight, or at all. But it reduces their importance and helps them to fade into the background a bit. We create in our lives what we focus on the most. By choosing to focus on the positive, we attract more positive energy into our lives.

Stop for a moment and look at your surroundings right now. What gifts or lessons are available to you in your current circumstances? And will you choose to embrace them and fully benefit from them?
