A Message from the President
|
It's hard to believe we're fast approaching the end of summer. Here at National Anesthesia, it's been a busy one - our annual Company Picnic was a huge hit, and we enjoyed talking to CRNA and SRNA friends old and new at the AANA 78th Annual Meeting in Boston. After meeting providers from all parts of the country, it occurred to us that the list of states with entirely paperless licensure is constantly growing, so for this newsletter we decided to bring you an update on the latest developments in this "green" trend.
Even though summer's not quite over, we've been thinking ahead to the winter flu season and stocking up on hand sanitizer for our office. Perhaps we should have waited until we'd read the article we bring you this month, where it's reported that some of these products may not be as effective as they claim to be.
For our "fun facts" this month, we bring you Part One of "Fifty Secrets of Successful People." We'll share the second installment with you in our next newsletter.
As we commemorate all working people this Labor Day with a final weekend of summer fun, we'll be thinking of those of you who'll be spending the day at work or on call. We are grateful for your service on this holiday and we hope that you'll be able to enjoy a day of rest and relaxation very soon.
As always, we're bringing you a selection of our hot jobs - just a small sampler of the many exciting opportunities we have available through the end of summer and on into fall. Check out our website at www.nationalanesthesia.com for more details.

Summer Fun at National!
|
It has been a beautiful summer in Michigan and the team at National has been making the most of it! Following tradition, our team threw a fabulous picnic this past month and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. After a busy day on the phones we headed outside, cranked up the music and let the good times roll. This year's party had an island theme complete with Caribbean music and beverages! Our fearless leader, Steve Read, served up his famous "cheeseburgers in paradise" to accompany the overabundance of delicious homemade side dishes and decadent desserts. Renee planned several fun activities and had clever prizes awaiting the winners! Everybody's competitive nature took over as we threw our energy into the games. It was a miracle that nobody was hurt as we participated in some limbo dancing, hula-hooping, ladder ball and corn hole games. Capping off the evening was a good old -fashioned water balloon toss, which provided some memorable moments and resulted in the only casualties of the evening - the drenching of Christi and Jill as they lost control of their balloons! The National team has always believed in working hard and that same philosophy transfers into their post-work activities.

Operation Boston: Mission Accomplished
|
Courtney, Randi and I (Christi) had a wonderful time in Boston at the AANA's 78th Annual Meeting. For those of you who weren't following us on Facebook, we kicked off the weekend at Fenway where we ate more than our fair share of peanuts and watched the Red Sox beat the Yankees! Since we're all fans of good food another highlight was definitely the lobster we devoured at one of the restaurants on the pier. Believe it or not we all tried the "green stuff" and Randi enjoyed her very first raw oyster! Truly the best part of going to the AANA each year is meeting new SRNAs and CRNAs and seeing old friends whom we've worked with for years. Exhibiting on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday was a major success. On Monday we received a 15-Year Exhibitor Recognition Award which we were able to proudly display at our booth (the picture really illustrates just how excited we really were) and Tuesday was the big drawing for the Kindle, Christine Stubbs was our lucky winner. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to say "hi," we look forward to connecting with you over the next year and are already looking forward to San Francisco in 2012!

FDA Cites Manufacturers for MRSA Misstatements
|
|
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued warnings to 4 manufacturers whose hand sanitizer and antiseptic products aren't as antibacterial as they claim to be.
The products' labeling and marketing promote their effectiveness in preventing infections from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and the H1N1 virus. However, the FDA says it has not seen any evidence supporting these statements and has ordered the companies to stop making the claims.
The products at issue include the CleanWell Company's All-Natural Hand Sanitizer, Foaming Hand Sanitizer, Hand Sanitizing Wipes and Antibacterial Foaming Hand Soap; JD Nelson and Associates' Safe4Hours Hand Sanitizing Lotion and First Aid Antiseptic Skin Protectant; Tec Laboratories' Staphaseptic First Aid Antiseptic/Pain Relieving Gel; and the G.H. Tichenor Antiseptic Co.'s Dr. Tichenor's Antiseptic Gel.
Healthcare professionals are asked to report any adverse events involving these products to the FDA's MedWatch program.
